
About me
Margi Coen is a highly experienced and passionate vocal trainer who has been teaching for over 25 years. She is a graduate of the Sydney’s Conservatorium of Music, (BMus classical voice).
Margi has had a diverse and brilliant teaching career. She enjoys teaching beginners just as much as advanced students and loves to nurture each and every student to be the best that they can be, whether they’re a bathroom singer or a professional performer!!
Her students have performed and are currently performing in professional musicals and operas, and she has trained numerous competition winners, including 2011’s Australia’s Got Talent winner Jack Vidgen.
Several of her students have record contracts overseas and are currently working in the international market.
Closer to home many of her students have appeared professionally throughout Australia over the last ten years in performances of Frozen, Matilda, Mary Poppins, Shrek the musical, Evita, Turandot, The Sound of Music and Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat
Margi has had an extensive career as a performer in many arenas from opera to jazz and has performed on stages as diverse as the Sydney Opera House Opera Theatre, Sydney’s Angel Place Recital Hall and the iconic ‘Basement’ with the award-winning A cappella quartet The Voice Squad. Margi has also worked for many years as a voice over artist for TV commercials.

Margi has musically directed and co – produced two high end musicals ‘The Sound of Music’ at St. Patrick’s Estate, Manly; a celebrated choral director and has taught over ten different choirs, which have performed in many different arenas and their credits include ABC recordings and for which she was the recipient of an Australia Day award for the best community event and ‘Grease on the Beach’ at Clontarf reserve – both raising significant funds for charity.

Margi was the artistic director of the Manly Carols in Sydney for 20 years. This remains one of the largest Christmas events in Australia.

She is also an accomplished choral director, having taught numerous children’s and adult’s choirs over the past 20 years. Her choirs have performed for ABC Sing Out Sydney for ABC radio, numerous corporate and charity events and for a TV commercial for ‘Man Up’; promoting men’s mental health awareness.
Margi has recently moved to the Gold Coast with her family and two beloved standard poodles, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie!
Prior to this she was the owner and director of the popular Sydney Vocal Training School ‘Sydney Vocal Arts Centre’ from 2000- 2020.
